Hiding on-premise distribution lists from Office 365 users, but NOT from on-premise users

Is there a way to do this?  All of our on-premise distribution lists can be seen in Office 365.  We want to hide them there so students can't see them, but leave them available on-premise so our staff can see them.

I found the PowerShell command to hide a distribution list in Office 365, but it won't let me do it since it's a distribution list maintained in AD and synchronized by DirSync.

I found the value in AD that hides a distribution list from the GAL, which apparently Office 365 will also see, but that's going to hide it from our on-premise users as well.

How do I hide an AD distribution list from ONLY our Office 365 users?
