RE: Using BDC for User Profiles

All I want to do is to have a user profile property updated using a value from a SQL table in azure. Easily done with on-prem SharePotnt.

I have contacted MS support on this several times and gotten nowhere.  All indications are that it is possible to map a user profile property to sync a value from an external source (active directory, bdc, or  ldap) .  You can do this in a on-prem SharePoint environment.  The steps should be to create the connection to the external data source, the go to user profile properties and create a new, or edit N existing property.  From the property configuration, you should be able to go to the source data connection area and select the  external source that you created from the drop down.  Here's the problem, the sources are not here.  Not even active directory.  The other piece the is missing from on line is the  connections section on the user profile page of the admin center.

It seems that this capability is half-baked or the text (mentioned by Dean above) at the top of the profile properties page was left there in error.  Very frustrating and makes profiles pretty useless inSharePoint Online.  Has anyone found a way to get this working?
