We are currently in the process of moving to Office 365 using a Hybrid configuration.
We have decided not to migrate our public folders as we are taking the opportunity to remove most of the junk that has build up in them over the years. However I do need to move some public folders and I have decided the simplest way to do this is to mail disable the existing public folder and delete it. Then recreate the public folder in Office 365 and reassign the email address.
The problem I have is that when I try to reassign the email address to the new public folder in office 365 it fails with the error "The proxy address "smtp:xxx@xxxxxx.co.uk" is already being used by "oldpublicfolder". Please choose another proxy address.
The smtp address is definitely not used or assigned anywhere on-premise, I have done a full dirsync and it has now been over 24 hours and I still cannot reassign the address.
What am I missing?
thanks
