I have an existing O365 tenant with 30+ users created through the O365 portal. They are all exchange enabled using my company domain (domain.com) and login into Outlook authenticating with their O365 email domain & password.
This is now expanding to cover global deployment and will involve a huge email & account migration project. I am tasked with importing 3,000+ AD/non-AD user accounts plus required groups into this new domain & sync'ing into O365.
I've setup an Azure cloud with redundant AD & ADFS (back end & proxy), site-2-site VPN and a DirSync server. My pan is to use SSO for E3 apps & future MS apps such as CRM.
On premise DC's (domain.com) also link into this Azure cloud through the site-2-site to allow regional teams to manage AD objects.
The AD environment is vanilla with the same domain name (domain.com) as the O365 email domain. This new AD will be used for the target destination for all migrated users so at present there is no user/group objects created (expect out of the box objects).
My problem lies in the DirSync process. If I Activate DirSync in Azure from this hybrid AD to Azure/O365 will any live user accounts in O365 be overwritten? Remember there are no user objects that match the current O365/Azure AD tenant account. Will the live accounts remain?
Will all AD/O365 object management be locked to AD for the existing O365 accounts - even though they don't exist in AD?
Is there a process to move the existing live user accounts from "In Cloud" to "Synced in Active Directory" without losing email or attributes? I understand that I will need to SMTP match new AD accounts with existing O365 accounts before running DirSync AND have users create passwords on AD to match O365 passwords.
