I had a test and found that If we setup ADFS and SSO ,we can’t use DirSync to sync the password policy again. All the password policy is controlled by local AD.
If the “un-federated a few accounts” means the xxx@domain.onmicrosoft.com users that were synchronized from the local AD via DirSync, it's not a supported scenario.
