Using Windows NLB for ADFS Proxy servers

We are in the process of expanding our ADFS environment and I am wondering if it's OK to user Windows NLB to load balance ADFS Proxy servers?  A consultant has told us that it's possible, but not recommended as he has had poor luck when trying to do so.  If anyone has additional feedback, I would be very interested to hear. Thanks!

Migrating Exchange Online to on-prem

We acquired a company who uses Exchange Online exclusively without AD/directory sync.  They use OWA.  However, they do use Active Directory and as such have accounts that will be migrated using ADMT to our AD.

If I setup a hybrid deployment with their Exchange Online and our on-prem, move those mailboxes to our on-prem, how is ADMT going to softlink those mailboxes to the AD accounts from their AD?

Should I setup directory sync between their own AD/Exchange Online first?

RE: Using Windows NLB for ADFS Proxy servers

If you're looking for a low cost solution with no bells or whistles that does relatively dumb balancing, NLB is fine but don't expect miracles from it. One thing to bear in mind when setting it up is where you configure it from. Once NLB is configured, you may find it nightmarish to continue administering it from the same machine depending on which type of balancing you select (unicast or multicast). My recommendation would be to administer it from a separate administration machine on which you install NLB but don't configure an NLB cluster, just connect to the operating NLB server once it's set up as a cluster.

Alternatives in the "free" space basically revolve around Linux, nginx (.org, not .com) or haproxy are probably the best known and are both capable of doing some quite intelligent load balancing (certainly compared to Windows NLB) but, as Joseph says, if you want something with support and upgrade paths, you should be looking at Kemp, F5 or, at the lower end of the scale/price, Barracuda appliances.

Good luck.

Hi b_123,

Do you have any update on the issue?

RE: The proxy address is already being used by the proxy addresses or LegacyExcahngeDN

Hi TuanPhan,

To understand the issue better, I’d like to confirm if you have deployed a hybrid environment or Dirsync/ SSO. If so, please give me more detailed about the environment.

Thanks,

Vivian Wang

The proxy address is already being used by the proxy addresses or LegacyExcahngeDN

The proxy address _____ is already being used by the proxy addressed or LegacyExchangeCN of ____.  Please chose another proxy address.

Searching through office 365 powershell by using:

get-mailbox | where {[string] $str = ($_.EmailAddresses); $str.tolower().Contains($proxyAddress().tolower())

and using Active Directory Users and Computer with the custom query command:

proxyAddresses=smtp:__@___.com

I also use Ldap and ADFind to search and nothing pops up

I cannot find the object where this particular proxy address resides, any ideas?

RE: Autodiscover fails when attempting to connect Outlook 2013 desktop client (O365), then crashes.

You could call it that.

1.) I was using auto-Setup (all profiles deleted, and it is just like a first run of Outlook 2013). I enter my login information, and don't modify and server settings. I let it attempt to configure itself.

2.) When it fails repeatedly, I choose the following:

and let it continue to try to configure itself. That fails.

3.) It eventually brings up the server settings after failing a few times. I enter outlook.office365.com as we are instructed to do. That fails. In the screenshots, it shows step by step "Outlook 1 of...."

I don't have another PC to test it on. I am trying a VM.

Are me and my admin on the same system? Not the same PC. He is an exchange admin....

RE: Azure DirSync not syncing passwords in new deployment.

Hi Joe,

After you set full password sync, and restart FIM service, please let us know which Dirsync logs you see from event view.

As for the issue, I would like to confirm the following things:
1.  What if you install Dirsync on DC or other servers?
2.  What’s the version of Dirsync? You can navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Active Directory Sync, and right click configwizard.exe(choose properties). You can see the file version in Details tab.
3.  Confirm if the password of service account (AAD_XXXXXX) doesn't expire.

Johnny Zhang

RE: Is Self-Service Password Reset Available in a new Office 365 Tenant for users with E1 license?

Hi Customer,

Technically, Self-service password reset is configured in Azure AD Premium or Basic instead of Office 365.

So, I regret to say, in current Office 365 for business plans, resetting a common user's password still need to involve the admin.

Your understanding is much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Rene

Is Self-Service Password Reset Available in a new Office 365 Tenant for users with E1 license?

Is self-service password reset available for all users in a new Office 365 tenant where the users either are assigned an E1 license or a SharePoint Plan 1 license?  Azure AD Premium will NOT be purchased.  Thanks.

RE: Autodiscover fails when attempting to connect Outlook 2013 desktop client (O365), then crashes.

In addition, Testing it in a VM on the Same PC results in the same exact results.

This is an irritating situation.

RE: Changed sync servers, missed a folder of users to sync, now what?

Hi Jeremy,

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

To narrow down the root cause of the issue, could you provide the following information for us?
1. Open miisclient.exe to check if there is any information (error messages) under the Operations tab. Please capture a screenshot about the error messages. To upload a picture, please click Use rich formatting under the reply box and then click Insert Image icon.
2. Please also check the information under the Management Agents tab in miisclient.exe to check if there are any filters.
Here should be the file location of the latest version of the DirSync tool:
<C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Active Directory Sync\SYNCBUS\Synchronization Service\UIShell

Any updates will be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Anna

RE: Adding new forests to AADSync

Hi Neil,

It seems the issue could be related to the format/wrong connector name. I have sent a private message to you to request all cmdlets you have performed. We will check it.

To see the private message, please perform the following steps:
1. Please go to "Your details" section on the right side of the community site.
2. Click Private messages.
3. Click the subject title of the response to read the message.

RE: Autodiscover fails when attempting to connect Outlook 2013 desktop client (O365), then crashes.

Hi b_123,

As your admin can set up your mailbox, I just confirm if you and your admin have the same network (not the same system). To troubleshoot the issue efficiently, I suggest involving the Office 365 administrator user. Thus, we also can check with something which needs to be configured by admin.

Johnny Zhang

Autodiscover fails when attempting to connect Outlook 2013 desktop client (O365), then crashes.

I have been having this problem for several months. Every time a computer is re-imaged, Windows is reinstalled, HDD replaced, etc. Autodiscover fails and says that

My PC specs: Windows 7 SP1 x64  (up to date), 4GB RAM.

Exchange 2013 settings:

Office365 ProPlus (Student Advantage) Plan E1

The latest desktop version of Office

The latest updates are installed.

The organization (my school) that I am attempting to connect my email account to uses Single Sign on (Shibboleth?).

I can access OWA without issue. (www.outlook.com/domain.edu)

When attempting to setup Outlook (Outlook 2013/Office 365 ProPlus), Autodiscover fails. The server settings are correct (outlook.office365.com), The username is entered correctly (full email address) when prompted for credentials.

I have tried:

username@domain.edu

domain\username@domain.edu

Please see the attached screenshots.

The University's IT department has attempted to resolve the matter and verified that the server settings were correct on my end (end-user desktop), but it has not solved the issue.

Note: I am attempting to connect from off campus (no VPN). I also have a mail-only alias, but use the original email address assigned as directed.

I have tried deleting and recreating the profile and email accounts through the control panel, as well as removing the Generic Credentials from the Credential Manager (they are listed as Local Machine)

Below are the error messages received. When Outlook fails to connect/says it's offline it crashes with the shell32 error.

This has been a very frustrating issue. Please help me out.

The problem is similar to this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2404385?ss-src=featuredhelp&ss=cb6fa47d-e128-4c8e-89b0-da4e54a84b73

RE: AADSync Rules - How to create a ProxyAddress Attribute by not using the ProxyAddress Attribute?

Hi Lizerbram,

I’m writing to follow up on this thread. Have you checked the above replies? Please post back at your convenience.

RE: Adding new forests to AADSync

Yes that was it.  I renamed the Windows Azure connector so that it had no spaces etc and that worked.

No I just need to work out the CSV :)

Thanks

RE: Syncing from Office 365 to a new local domain

Hi Rob,

Can you share any update with us?

Thanks,
Johnny Zhang

Syncing from Office 365 to a new local domain

Hi, my school has been using Office 365 for a year and a half, I have recently decided that we also need an on premises server as well which I have set up as a domain controller (Win 2012 Server Standard) on our site.  I would like to sync local active directory with Office 365 but all the information I am getting relates to doing this the other way round (start local move users to Office 365).

Are there any steps I need to take to sync from Office 365 to a locl server, what difficulties am I likely to encounter?

Thanks,

Rob
