Changes to DirSync - Filtering Disabled Accounts

Hi!

We are planning to make some changes to the way DirSync syncs disabled accounts into O365. To explain why - HR may need to leave accounts intact in AD but disabled to ensure that their systems (which read from AD) can still 'see' the user after they have ceased employment - this could be due to ongoing arrangements that need to be maintained. We have the issue tho where these accounts are being replicated to O365, so they show up in the SP Online organizational chart etc and we would like to stop this.

So we are planning to filter disabled accounts in DirSync. I have some questions tho on scenarios about what might happen after we do this:

  1. If a user is disabled but has a mailbox which is hosted and licensed in O365, and they are disabled, maybe because they are on extended leave, maternity leave etc, what happens if I do this filtering and the next replication runs? I'm expecting this account to disappear from online portal etc, but will this also delete the corresponding exchange online mailbox and all data within?
