To understand the issue more clearly, can you please provide the following information?
- When you said “hybrid deployment”, do you mean that you have deployed hybrid between the on-premises Exchange server and Exchange Online?
- What’s the Office 365 subscription you’re using for these students?
- Where did the user encounter the specific issue, when log into the Office 365 portal or perform some other tasks?
- Do you have other on-premises environments deployed like DirSync/ADFS/SSO?
- Since you mentioned “Exchange server”, can the on-premises Exchange users access their mailboxes without issue?
Also, please capture a screenshot the detailed error message and post it here.
